Turkish Airlines has introduced a unique feature at Istanbul Airport—a dedicated ‘Pet Lounge’ designed to enhance the travel experience for passengers flying with their pets.
This addition is designed to provide a smoother and less stressful journey for both pets and their owners. By offering a soundproof and relaxing environment, the airline aims to minimize the stress that travel can cause for animals.
You can access Turkish Airlines here.
The new lounge caters to pets traveling in the cargo hold—those that exceed the cabin’s weight and size limits. While pets that meet specific size and weight requirements can accompany their owners in the cabin, those that exceed these limits now have access to a safe and accommodating space before boarding.
The Pet Lounge is designed to accommodate up to 78 animals at a time, including 32 dogs, 36 cats, and 10 birds. Covering an area of 250 square meters, the lounge also features an outdoor terrace, providing fresh air for its furry and feathered visitors. Additionally, a full-time veterinarian is on-site to oversee the health and safety of all pets.
Here are some pictures of the new Pet Lounge, as shared by the airline on their social media platforms:
CONCLUSION
Turkish Airlines allows passengers to bring smaller pets into the cabin, as long as the combined weight of the pet and carrier does not exceed 8 kg, with carrier dimensions limited to 23 cm in height, 30 cm in width, and 40 cm in length. For pets that don’t meet these requirements, the Pet Lounge offers a comfortable space, ensuring larger animals can enjoy a less stressful journey. This is the first time I’ve heard of a pet lounge, and it definitely serves as great PR for the airline as they aim to position themselves as a pet-friendly choice for travelers.
