You can buy 60,000 Rapid Rewards points in a transaction before any possible bonuses, which is also the daily maximum. Southwest doesn’t limit the number of points you can purchase in a calendar year.

Does it make ANY sense to buy Rapid Rewards points?
The value of a Rapid Rewards point used for Wanna Getaway fares is 1.2 cents each. Therefore, purchasing Rapid Rewards points at 1.8 cents makes very little sense.
Note that paid fares would EARN more Rapid Rewards points. Certain taxes are not applicable for award tickets issued using Rapid Rewards points, and tickets are cancelable.

Southwest prices awards dynamically, and the value of a point is always less than what you pay for during these frequent sales. So buying the ticket using cash is cheaper, AND you earn some Rapid Rewards points.
Southwest should upp the discount or the bonus to make these sales worthwhile. In their current form, they make zero sense.
