- February 20 has been confirmed as the official date for the Pi Network’s Open Network migration amid the rising concerns of frequent delays.
- The team has also confirmed that there would be no further delays as all the conditions needed to launch the network have been met.
Pi Network has confirmed that the much-anticipated launch of its Open Network will occur on February 20, 2025. This comes after an earlier announcement disclosed that the mainnet migration deadline for the grace period has been extended to February 28, 2025, as noted in our earlier post.
According to the latest report, the upcoming migration would mark the end of the Enclosed Mainnet period which started in December 2021. Meanwhile, the mainnet was reported to be operational within the period but safeguarded by a firewall.
As a result of the hard work and commitment from the entire Pi community over the last six years, the Pi community is taking the enormous next step in achieving the Pi vision of the world’s most inclusive peer-to-peer ecosystem and online experience, fueled by Pi, the native token of Pi Network.
Within this period, the team has been able to complete KYC and obtain Pi on the Mainnet. Additionally, developers have been allowed to build real apps and utilities for the ecosystem while ensuring that the core team can release and improve various Pi features and utilities.
More About the Pi Network’s Upcoming Open Network Launch
As reported by the Network, the final transition would witness the introduction of external connectivity to the Pi blockchain. This would ensure that Pi interfaces with other networks while Pioneers engage in transactions beyond the Pi ecosystem. Once the firewall is removed after the launch, nodes could be technically added by anyone. As detailed in our last news piece, users were also urged to migrate their referral teams by January 31.
For a safe and compliant ecosystem, Know-Your-Customer (KYC) verification for Pioneers and Know Your Business (KYB) would be required. Meanwhile, 10.14 million mainnet migrations have been reached, exceeding the original 10 million goal. The report also mentions that Pioneers who obtained Pi on the mainnet were able to engage in transactions with other Pioneers within the network.
For example, PiFest 2024, a one-week event, facilitated the transaction of Pi for goods and services between Pi merchants and Pioneer shoppers on a local level, attracting over 27,000 active sellers and 28,000 test merchants across 160 countries and participation of over 950,000 Pioneers within just a few days.
Speaking on the frequent delays of the mainnet launch, the team explained that a set of conditions were listed in December 2023 to influence the official release. Currently, all of these conditions have been met, including the 19 million pioneers verified identity and the over 100 mainnet or mainnet-ready apps recorded. According to the team, there would be no further delays to the Open Network launch.
Pioneers should continue to KYC and migrate to Mainnet if they haven’t already before or after the Open Network launch, and engage with Pi apps in the Pi Browser to support ecosystem development and long-term utility. Likewise, community developers are encouraged to develop, refine and launch apps that meet Pi Network’s standards and contribute to the community and its utility.
Amid the ongoing developments, the team has cautioned users to rely only on the official Safety Center for timely updates, as highlighted in our previous article.
