In recent weeks, I covered airlines that are still offering Elite Baggage Tags to their members, and I have an update about Lufthansa Miles & More as they still send out tags as well, starting with their lowly silver Frequent Travelers.
This makes Miles & More one of the few remaining airlines that offer this service, although the quality of tags varies by status, and the higher tiers, Senator & HON Circle, receive a more premium variety.
Members receive these baggage tags upon obtaining status, and you can also manually request them if you have had status for a long time and never received fresh ones, as they naturally decay over time.
I haven’t actively collected Lufthansa miles, and this year, my status eventually dropped to Frequent Traveler. I decided to email them and request a set of baggage tags to see if they still offer it.
To my surprise, they still do:
The set comes with baggage tags in the form of two ordinary plastic cards and a metal hanger, as well as an actual FTL membership card. I should also receive a new M&M FTL credit card from DKB in Germany sometime soon.
SEN get two burgundy-colored (fake)leather tags to hold the cards:
HON’s get a higher quality leather tag, embossed with HON Circle:
As I said before when I commented on the tags from Delta and American, the cost for this is very little, and it’s a nice gesture of appreciation for the members. Plus, it’s also an advertisement, and status members often like to show off their membership as well.
In the past, it was customary for airlines to present members with special baggage tags when they obtained elite status, but then, as cost-cutting prevailed, most cut it down or removed the benefit entirely. Even membership cards have become rare, most recently under the disguise of being better for the environment.
Conclusion
I previously changed my Lufthansa status to a lowly Frequent Traveler (Star Alliance Silver) and remembered that it might be a good idea to ask Miles & More to swap out my baggage tags.
After a quick email exchange, Lufthansa confirmed that they would send me a new membership set, which arrived ~ 14 days later by mail, containing two baggage tags and a new membership card.
I was surprised Lufthansa Miles & More still offers this but it’s definitely a nice touch and something many other airlines have abandoned by now.
