Lufthansa took a 41% stake in ITA Airways in January (read more here) and has quickly started integrating the airline into Miles & More and the Star Alliance.
ITA Airways exited SkyTeam on February 3, but there will be a transition phase through April 30, 2025, during which most, if not all, existing benefits will be honored (read more here). Miles & More members have been able to earn award miles on ITA flights from February 3, but elite miles and HON Circle points earnings were enabled on February 15 per Lufthansa’s release yesterday.
You can access Lufthansa’s ITA page here.

Conclusion
I’m not sure what Lufthansa and Miles & More have been smoking if they believe they can find “first-class service combined with Italian hospitality” when flying on ITA Airways.
Alitalia, ITA’s previous form, was quite OK when Etihad invested cash and was refining the service concept, but everything was lost when they pulled out after losing a billion or two.
I thought that the earning of elite qualifying and HON Circle Points was enabled when ITA became Miles & More participating on February 3, but apparently, that was not the case per the announcement that Miles&More put up yesterday. These went live on February 15.
Now, we are waiting for ITA’s Star Alliance integration, which is scheduled for next year. The airline is already out of the SkyTeam, although most alliance benefits will remain until April 30th.
