IHG and Hilton offer rollover nights that help you qualify for the status in the subsequent year. Marriott discontinued this in the late 2010s, and Hyatt has never offered it.
There is always confusion when someone’s IHG year-end tally is, i.e., 120 elite nights and only one or perhaps even zero rollover to the following year, and here is why.
You can access IHG here.

IHG doesn’t have a proper page up on its website that would clearly explain this function, but only has the following hidden in some FAQs:
What are Elite Rollover Nights?
Gold Elite, Platinum Elite and Diamond Elite members can earn status faster by rolling extra Qualifying Nights over to the next year.
For example, if a Gold Elite member stayed 25 Qualifying Nights in 2022, they would earn Gold Elite status for the 2023 calendar year. However, Gold Elite status only requires 20 Qualified Nights, so the additional 5 nights that the member stayed over and above the Gold Elite qualification, will be rolled over in their account and count towards their progress to the next Elite tier in 2024. Please note that rollover nights can only be carried over one-time into the following year.
IHG One Rewards Partial Elite Benefits Matrix:
IHG One Rewards Status Requirements:
The maximum number of Rollover Nights per IHG One Rewards Tier:
Gold = 19
Platinum = 29
Diamond = 70
You can only rollover nights consumed in any given year that exceeds your status.
Gold members can roll over a maximum of 19 nights because they would be Platinum now if they had earned 40 nights in 2024.
Similarly, Platinum members can roll over a maximum of 29, and Diamond members 70, which would requalify you for another year of Diamond through December 31, 2026, without setting foot at IHG-affiliated property in 2025 (but what are those benefits worth if you don’t use them).
When you look at the total nights for 2024, you first must deduct any possible rollover nights from 2023. You then have the number of nights consumed in 2024 that can be rolled over to 2025.
Note that bonus elite qualifying nights you may have earned in 2024 are also lumped with all nights earned in 2024, and they are eligible for rollover.
If you purchase Ambassador status in 2024, only nights consumed over 40 and less than 70 are eligible for the rollover.
Remember that rollover nights DO NOT count towards Milestone Rewards, which are entirely based on elite qualifying nights earned in a calendar year.
Conclusion
IHG hasn’t promoted these Rollover nights lately, and I wonder if they are on their way out during the next program “enhancement.”
IMHO, they are less critical now that many of the benefits, such as the Annual Lounge Pass and Suite Upgrade Certs, are based on the Milestone Rewards choices you made during your membership year, which are entirely based on the nights consumed in that year (rollover nights do not count).
IHG should have a counter on its website about the nights that could potentially be rolled over to the following membership year, as the current setup creates confusion among program members.
I ended my 2024 IHG membership year at precisely 70 nights consumed. There isn’t a benefit to doing more, as this gives you Diamond status and the most essential Milestone choices. These 70 nights include 15 promotional elite qualifying nights from a promo that IHG ran.
