Delta will begin flying nonstop from its Atlanta (ATL) hub to Marrakech (RAK) this fall – the airline’s first-ever nonstop flight to Morocco – while adding a second daily nonstop to the capital of Ghana, Accra (ACC).
The airline unveiled both those new routes to Africa from its megahub on Friday morning. While the airline’s new daily flights from Atlanta to Accra beginning in December will drastically increase the airline’s existing service to West Africa, it’s the new route to Morocco that deserves the spotlight.
Delta’s flights to Marrakech will begin Oct. 25, flying three times a week on a Boeing 767-400 – one of the carrier’s retrofitted widebody jets with a newer Delta One business class cabin and Delta Premium Select seats as well as Comfort Plus and a standard economy cabin. Delta even says these jets will be outfitted with fast, free onboard Wi-Fi by the time service starts this fall. The route to Marrakech will run year-round.
As always, Delta flyers will be able to use their Delta SkyMiles to book these flights once they’re on sale. But savvy travelers may instead look to book those flights using miles from some of Delta’s partner airlines like Air France/KLM Flying Blue and Virgin Atlantic Flying Blue.
These new flights were expected to go on sale Saturday.
Marrakech has emerged as a tourist hotspot in northwestern Africa – a showcase of stunning architecture and a melding of both African culture with the French influence from colonization, from the dusty streets of the Medina (old town) to the palaces and the cuisine. And by adding flights from Atlanta, Delta can get travelers from hundreds of cities all across the country to Marrakech with one quick stop.
But Delta won’t be the first U.S. airline to bring customers there.

That distinction goes to United, which started nonstop flights from Newark (EWR) to Marrakech last October. Morocco’s national carrier, Royal Air Maroc, currently flies nonstop to Casablanca (CMN) from several U.S. cities while both Air Canada and Air Transat also fly to Marrakech from Montreal (YUL).
To the south of Morocco, Delta already flies nonstop to Accra from New York City (JFK). Starting Dec. 1, it will add a second daily nonstop flight to the capital of Ghana from Atlanta – though that route will only operate seasonally over the winter months. Both flights will operate on one of Delta’s newest Airbus A330-900neos, decked out with Delta One Suites at the front of the plane.
Those additions will make Delta the biggest U.S. carrier flying to Africa … by far. The airline already flies nonstop to both Cape Town (CPT) and Johannesburg (JNB) in South Africa from Atlanta, as well as Lagos (LOS) in Nigeria. From New York City, Delta flies nonstop to Accra, Lagos, and Dakar (DSS) in Senegal.
Bottom Line
Delta will being flying to Marrakech, Morocco (RAK) from Atlanta (ATL) this fall.
It’ll be the airline’s first-ever flight to Morocco, giving Delta flyers a new, exciting way to fly to the charming Moroccan city. Along with another flight to Accra in Ghana, Delta is ramping up its already extensive network to Africa.
