Marriott Bonvoy regularly updates the loyalty program Terms and Conditions (sometimes even more frequently than monthly).
Marriott has now issued another update regarding the Delonix + Betterwood partnership and City Express hotels that are spreading to the United States and Canada (conversion brand).

xvii. Tribute Portfolio® – all locations except for:
Effective December 5, 2024, the Grand New Century Hotel, Hangzhou Boao, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel and Wonderland Resort, Hangzhou Jiande, a Tribute Portfolio Resort will participate in the Loyalty Program as a partnership with Delonix Group and Betterwood (see Section 1.3.d).
So, there are now Delonix Group and Betterwood hotels that are also Bonvoy participating?
Delonix & Betterwood
- Betterwood. Betterwood is a membership system launched by Delonix Group which offers its members benefits that are valid at select Participating Properties in Asia (see section 1.2.a.xvii). Betterwood operates both as a stand-alone program as well as in conjunction with the Loyalty Program.
- Members of both Betterwood and the Loyalty Program (“Dual Members”) will designate which membership will be primary and which will be secondary for each Stay at a Participating Property within the Delonix Group (hereinafter, a “Delonix Stay”). Dual Members who book a Delonix Stay through Marriott Channels will have the Loyalty Program designated as their primary program during booking. Walk-in reservations for a Delonix Stay will be able to choose their primary program at check-in.
- Betterwood has no earn and redeem points benefits. Guests who are members of both Betterwood and the Loyalty Program can only earn and redeem Points or Miles with the Loyalty Program.
- Dual Members who list the Loyalty Program as their secondary program on a Delonix Stay can earn Elite Night Credit for that Delonix Stay (so long as the stay was not booked through a third party channel), but such Elite Night Credits will not count toward the Member’s Loyalty Program lifetime status and, in Marriott’s discretion, may not apply toward the member’s eligibility for Platinum Elite or higher status or eligibility for Annual Choice Benefits. No other Loyalty Program benefits will be given to Dual Members who designate the Loyalty Program as secondary for the Delonix Stay (e.g., no earning of Points or Miles).
- Dual Members who have designated the Loyalty Program as their primary program on a Delonix Stay can (a) earn Loyalty Program Points or Miles, (b) receive Member benefits based on the membership tier as outlined in Sections 1.3 and 4, (c) earn Betterwood Program Time as if such reservation were made through a Delonix Channel, and (d) receive core benefits that are provided to all basic Betterwood members at the Participating Hotel.
- Guests who are members of both Betterwood and the Loyalty Program are subject to any terms and conditions of Betterwood and the Loyalty Program Rules. More information about Betterwood can be found here↗
These Mariott Bonvoy T&Cs appear to contradict what Betterwood has on its website.
As part of their program, you can get every 10th night free.
Instant Redemptions:
City Express properties in Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, and South America do not offer Instant Redemption.
City Express is expanding to North America, but instant redemptions are unavailable at their legacy locations.
City Express Welcome Elite Points
City Express hotels have not offered welcome amenity points, but now that only applies to Caribbean, Central America, Mexico, and South America properties. These properties do not offer Elite Welcome Gift of Points.
Gold members are eligible for 250 welcome amenity points for stays at City Express hotels in the United States and Canada.
Platinum and higher members are eligible for 500 bonus points when staying at City Express hotels in the United States and Canada.
Nightly Upgrade Awards
The Grand New Century Hotel, Hangzhou Boao, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel and Wonderland Resort, Hangzhou Jiande, a Tribute Portfolio Resort do not participate in Nightly Upgrade Awards.
These Betterwood properties are not part of the Nightly Upgrade Awards.
Ambassador Benefits at Betterwood:
Additional benefits at Wonderland Resort, Hangzhou Jiande, a Tribute Portfolio Resort and Grand New Century Hotel, Hangzhou Boao, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel. Ambassador Elite Members will receive an additional on-property benefit for each Delonix Stay for which they designate the Loyalty Program as primary. The benefit will be offered upon check-in, and may vary by Participating Property. This benefit is limited to the eligible Ambassador Elite Member plus one (1) guest staying in the same room. It is limited to one (1) guest room per Delonix Stay, regardless of how many rooms have been reserved, and the room must be under the Ambassador Elite Member’s name and they must stay in the guest room and pay for the charges.
Conclusion
There are more than 1,600 hotels in this Delonix group, and two of them are participating in Bonvoy, but it wouldn’t surprise me if more joined in the future.
It is quite confusing that you then have two loyalty programs covering some of these properties: Betterwood and Bonvoy (B&B—rhymes well, though).
Gold and higher Bonvoy members can get elite welcome bonus points for stays at City Express hotels in the United States and Canada but not elsewhere.
