The Maldives is significantly increasing airport taxes on tickets issued or or after December 1, 2024.
Economy fees increase 67% to $100, business class fees increase 100% to $240, and first-class fees increase a whopping 167% to $480.
Note that these fees affect all passengers, excluding Maldivian nationals, diplomats, and children under 2. Also, passengers who are merely transiting through Maldives are exempt from this tax.
These are also charged for award tickets.

I guess the Maldivian government feels that they can significantly raise these fees, and those traveling to the island nation won’t notice this as it won’t be a significant part of the total budget.
The Maldives really should have taken the segment length into account as well. I have flown in paid business from Male to Colombo, and the new fees for this, which is essentially a short-haul segment, are $240.
