A LoyaltyLobby reader sent us a case about a dispute they had with the IHG about how to count the rollover qualifying nights from 2024. They were expecting 14, while IHG awarded zero.
Readers are encouraged to send us questions, comments, or opinions by email, Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. We’ll cover them here several times a week.

Reader’s Note:
I’ve recently managed to maintain my IHG Diamond for 2025. I actually hit 70 nights sometime in Aug 2024 inclusive of 2023 rollover plus Reward Nights plus the 15 nights double elite promotion. I continued to stay with IHG thereafter and ended 2024 with 84 nights.
IHG is refusing to acknowledge the timeline to which I have attained the 70 Diamond renewal nights (in Aug 2024). They are insisting that I will have no rollover into 2025 instead as they are disregarding the timeline of achievement and instead looking at overall 2024 annual attainment. This was even after I showed them screenshots I had taken at each of these milestones. They will now allow me to maintain Diamond for the whole of 2025 without my 14 nights rollover (which will be pretty substantial and almost halfway to Platinum for 2026). In hindsight, I should have stopped with IHG since Aug 2024 and stayed with other hotel chains instead (14 nights will be sufficient for Hilton Diamond Fast Track!)
I have the full transcript email with their weird methodology to share if you were keen (do let me know). Hoping this will also help you alert all your readers to stop staying at IHG upon hitting 70 nights especially when bonuses are involved.
And:
I’ve just concluded the saga with IHG. They are adamant about their stand as they look at Elite nights by Year and not by Timeline achieved. Attached email for your reference, you can use part of this attachment for your endeavours (do remove my name where possible in your articles). I should have checked with them the moment I hit 70 nights back in August 2024.
In Summary:
– IHG does not look at physical timeline, they look at annual achievements.
– If you hit 70 nights, you will not earn anymore Elite nights based on the bonus elite used.
– Does not make any sense staying with IHG once hitting 70 nights, especially when bonus Elite Nights and Rollover are included.
Reader also forwarded us the email exchange they had with the IHG One Rewards service center and here’s how IHG counted their nights:
After reviewing your account activity in 2024, I can confirm that you’ve accumulated a total of 84
qualifying nights. Here’s the breakdown:
Rollover Nights: 6
Reward Nights: 2
Qualifying Nights: 61
Bonus Nights: 15
Rollover nights, which are qualifying nights in excess of the number required for Gold, Platinum, or Diamond Elite status, only reward night reservations and qualifying nights you’ve earned for this year are eligible for rollover nights into 2025. However, bonus nights do not count as qualifying nights; they are used to maintain your Diamond status or help you reach the next milestone reward.
For your 2024 status, your qualifying nights count for 63 (Reward Nights: 2 + Qualifying Nights: 61), so there will be no rollover for this year, as it does not exceed the 70 qualifying nights required for Diamond status. Your rollover nights (6) and bonus nights (15) helped you maintain your Diamond status, but they do not contribute toward qualifying for 2024. I understand this process can be a bit tricky, but I hope this clears things up for you.
The issue here is that you should only count the nights that you have consumed in the same calendar year without any possible bonus elite qualifying nights to come up with the baseline number that is then compared to your status.
The elite nights that are over your status and earned in that calendar year can roll over for the following calendar year.
I may have made a mistake last year when covering the bonus elite night offers. These nights count towards Milestone Rewards but not towards possible Rollover Nights, and I don’t think this has been clear enough.
Conclusion
I wanted to post this case from a reader to remind others to be very careful when calculating these nights, which can possibly roll over with IHG.
Only nights you have consumed in that calendar year and without any bonus nights can rollover. IHG should have a rollover counter that displays nights that can roll over, as the current situation is not optimal.
I ended last year precisely at 70 nights that included zero rollover nights, but was with 15 bonus elite qualifying ones.
