- The partnership highlights blockchain’s growing role in motorsports, aligning with Gate.io’s broader expansion efforts in innovation and global outreach.
When the worlds of cryptocurrency and Formula One racing meet, the outcomes can be more intriguing than a heated race on the track. Gate.io, a global crypto exchange, recently announced a partnership with Oracle Red Bull Racing, the team that has won eight Formula One World Drivers’ Championship championships.
Beginning in the 2025 season, Gate.io branding will be seen on several important team assets including the RB21 car, racing outfits, and helmet of Max Verstappen.

More Than Just Branding, It’s About Innovation
Gate.io aims not just for world’s fastest racing car to have its brand on. This cooperation has a more profound meaning: the world of motorsports should explore blockchain technologies. Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner underlined that both sides have same innovative vision.
Dr. Lin Han, CEO of Gate.io, noted that this partnership happened at the appropriate time—that of blockchain going beyond mere financial transactions.
Although blockchain is mostly connected with digital assets, today the technology is progressively invading other sectors, including sports. This technology’s speed and efficiency could allow fans to have fresh experiences and create chances for more general integration.
Gate.io’s Bold Move: From Investment to Global Expansion
Gate.io keeps stretching its wings outside the racing world. The corporation announced on October 9, 2024, a $10 million investment in The Open Network (TON), a blockchain created to assist Telegram-based applications. With hundreds of millions of users, Telegram has significant potential as a more general and quick crypto transaction platform, hence this investment is not without cause.
On the other hand, Gate.io also decided drastically to halt providing services in Japan since July 22, 2024. New account registrations for Japanese citizens closing on the same day preceded this choice. Though the precise cause was not revealed, tight Japanese laws most certainly played a major role in this action.
Other Crypto Exchanges Don’t Want to Be Left Behind
Gate.io is not the only exchange actively increasing its reach. According to CNF, Coinbase had registered in the UK under Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). Coinbase may thus immediately provide crypto services in the UK, so enhancing its position in the European market. Not content to stop there, Coinbase has applied for a futures trading license for Solana and Hedera to the CFTC and registered Virtual Assets Service Provider (VASP) in Argentina.
Blockchain and Formula 1: The Future is Getting Closer?
Although the mix of cryptocurrency and sports is not novel, Gate.io’s approach with Oracle Red Bull Racing reveals that blockchain is progressively taking the stage in the major sector.
From engaging experiences for spectators to more effective payment systems in the motorsport sector, blockchain technology is not difficult for integration more into the realm of racing with this cooperation.
Imagine if one day, free from the risk of counterfeiting, race tickets could be bought straight using digital assets on the blockchain, hassle-free, without middlemen. Alternatively, seeing a race could be more engaging if a blockchain-based system lets supporters communicate directly with their preferred teams? As fast technology develops, these opportunities are opening more and more.
