A flight from India to Thailand on Air Asia has drawn attention as a video spread, showing some Indian passengers standing in the aisle, drinking and eating while conversing loudly and ignoring the crew’s instructions to sit down.
The video was circulated by an Indian content creator – and viewed millions of times – who didn’t take too kindly upon these passengers, saying they lack proper behavior and etiquette, giving Indian travelers a bad name.
It’s always difficult when you have a group of travelers from a particular nationality and the bad behavior they display just fits the stereotype they are usually known for. I’m sure most if not all countries have at least one such trait which can be assigned to them.
In this particular case, the passengers were Indian and on an Air Asia budget flight from India to Thailand, and this is the original video that caused the discussion about what these guys did:
The story was picked up by The Taiger and other media in India, which got this case quite a few views over the holidays.
Indian passengers turn Thai AirAsia plane into party zone
A flight to Thailand turned into a scene of mid-air mayhem, sparking outrage online after a viral video showcased the unruly behaviour of Indian passengers.
Shared by Ankit Kumar, a content creator aboard the Thai AirAsia flight, the footage reveals groups of Indian men standing in the aisle, chatting loudly, snacking, and blatantly ignoring air hostesses’ repeated requests to return to their seats.
Social media erupted after the video, captioned with the sentiment that such antics “bring a bad name to the country,” amassed over 29,000 likes and millions of views. Many users expressed embarrassment over their compatriots’ conduct.
“Money doesn’t get you class!”
“We should never defend such behaviour. It tarnishes India’s image globally.”
Comments poured in from Indians both at home and abroad, highlighting a pattern of poor manners in public spaces. …
The incident reignited discussions about civic sense and cultural etiquette. Some users criticised the lack of accountability.
“This is why Bharat remains a third-world country. Stop blaming the government.”
This is not an isolated case. A similar complaint came from a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) who shared on Reddit how Indian passengers on a Munich to Delhi flight caused chaos with loud conversations and disregard for fellow travellers, reported Odisha TV India. …
I’m not exactly sure money has anything to do with this, after all Air Asia is a budget airline and this doesn’t look like a private jet party with champagne and caviar. India has a thriving middle class and a trip to Thailand isn’t something only the rich can afford.
Still, it leaves a bitter taste that the crews instructions were ignored here. How come they cabin crew or pilots didn’t assert more authority?
Congregating in the aisle is one thing, but doing so in a rather annoying fashion while loudly talking and eating food is simply not acceptable. There are other passengers in this cabin and passengers should be seated at all times anyway unless they have to go to the restroom.
The crew should have had a stern word with them and warned them of consequences upon landing, as in being arrested for interference with the crew and most likely denied entry into Thailand. Was this done? Probably not.
I can honestly say that Indian passengers are rather loud and often times inconsiderate. If you take early morning flights on THAI from Bangkok to destinations such as Bali, Japan or Korea there are A LOT of Indian connecting passengers andthese flights are absolute hell.
And who could forget this gem I was able to capture in May:
Whine Wednesday: Air India Passengers Caught Stealing At The EVA AIR Lounge In Bangkok
Now, India is a country of way over a Billion people, and you can’t let some of them to paint a picture for every single citizen, but it’s really obvious that loud and inconsiderate behavior is very prevalent here.
Have you had any “special” experience with a particular travel group?
Conclusion
Some Indian passengers caused a lot of drama and attention for all the wrong reasons after creating commotion on their flight from India to Thailand.
Apparently, they were in a light mood and decided to start their Thailand holiday a little early. They treated the aircraft cabin like a bar and moved around freely while talking loudly and snacking. The worst part, however, is that the cabin crew quite a few times pleaded with them to return to their seats, all of which were ignored.
These reports don’t note how long the entire episode took, but I’m very surprised that the crew didn’t put their foot down faster. Passengers being inconsiderate is one thing, but I’d expect the crew to act and threaten consequences. Either have them picked up by the authorities upon arrival or, in the worst case, land at the nearest airport and drop them off.
