SAS sent out a reminder about an issue with their EuroBonus frequent flier numbers that is entirely their own fault. SAS reminds members never to forget to include the letters of their EuroBonus number when using partners.
The problem with SAS’ frequent flier numbers is that the letters change depending on your status and can change several times during your program membership.
You can access SAS here.
SAS’ Email:
The issue here is that airlines usually record partner request flier numbers in the following way:
Two Letter Carrier Code + The Frequent Flyer Number (could be letter and number or only number)
If SAS had thought this well, their EuroBonus numbers would be in the following format with partners:
SK123456789
But no! You need to add the three letters there as well; that, in my case, would be EBG and the correct way to have the number on the partner record:
SKEBG123456789
That would then yield as a SkyTeam Elite Plus with associated benefit.
Conclusion
I cannot understand the benefits of SAS having the EuroBonus numbers in this format, which changes with your status.
This only makes things more complicated for you to ensure that they are correctly on file with the partner airlines, and you may have to change it to reflect the status you have at the time of flying instead of what It was when the flight was booked.
SAS should make these EuroBonus numbers permanent and not have the alphabet part change throughout your journey with them.
