Google has launched a new AI image feature for its Shopping tab, enabling users to find clothing based on their specific descriptions. The feature, named “Vision Match,” is now available for mobile users in the U.S.

Google’s new AI feature transforms online shopping: Find clothes by description

Vision Match allows shoppers to describe garments they envision, prompting the AI to suggest items that match the description and are available for purchase. Users can access this feature by typing their idea into the search bar and selecting the “Can’t find it? Create it” prompt or navigating to “Create & Shop” in the left panel of the Shopping tab.

Previously an experimental option in Labs since 2023, Vision Match aims to simplify the shopping process for those who have trouble finding specific items. Data indicates that over half of shoppers report challenges in locating clothing that aligns with their vision. The feature utilizes AI image generation to present ideas based on user descriptions.

Alongside this launch, Google is enhancing its augmented reality (AR) beauty features to allow users to try on multiple makeup products at once. U.S. users can now virtually apply various lipsticks, mascaras, eyeshadows, and eyeliners from brands like E.L.F., Fenty, and Glossier. By searching terms such as “soft glam,” shoppers can select “See the looks on you” and “Try it on” to see how the products appear on their face.

Additionally, Google is expanding its virtual try-on feature, which allows users to see how clothing fits on a variety of models. The updated tool now includes pants and skirts from hundreds of brands, enabling users to visualize these garments on real-life models in sizes ranging from XXS to XXL. Shoppers can find and select items with a “try on” badge to see how they look on diverse body types.

In 2023, Google implemented generative AI to enhance the Shopping tab, previously adding features such as AI summaries for product searches. For example, searching for a winter jacket provides users with key tips necessary for informed purchasing decisions.

With these developments, Google aims to improve the online shopping experience, making it easier for users to turn their fashion and beauty visions into reality and make more informed buying choices.
