- D3 secures $25M funding to launch Doma Blockchain, aiming to revolutionize domain ownership and integrate DNS with Web3 technology.
- The Doma Blockchain introduces tokenized domain ownership, enabling seamless trading, decentralized control, and new investment opportunities in the digital domain space.
The internet domain industry is set to get much more exciting with the presence of blockchain technology. Domain registration start-up D3 just closed a Series A fundraising round for $25 million, according to Fortune.
Paradigm led the funding round, and Coinbase Ventures among numerous other well-known tech companies participated. The launch of Doma Protocol, a blockchain created to bring internet domains to the next level, will be supported with the fresh fund.
Doma Blockchain: Linking DNS to Web3
Doma Protocol is unlike any typical blockchain initiative. It aims mostly to link the Web3 environment with the Domain Name System (DNS). Internet domains are run under centralized registries right now. Doma was created to let users fully own their digital assets and make domains more versatile.
Moreover, this blockchain will be made to be compatible with the current DNS infrastructure so as to avoid upsetting traditional registrants and systems. Stated differently, this shift will enhance the current system rather than throw off its operation.
Domain Tokenization: New Innovation in the Digital World
Domain registration has thus far only been confined to digital ownership without extra freedom. Doma introduces a new concept by enabling domain tokenization. Domains can thus be more liquid, sold more readily, and even loan collateral employed.
Apart from that, this technology creates chances for fractional ownership. Imagine if one could purchase shares in a company, therefore acquiring part of the ownership of a premium domain. This would create hitherto difficult-to-access new investment prospects.
Support from Major Players
Apart from acquiring funds from Coinbase Ventures and Paradigm, D3 has also teamed with several top technological and blockchain communities. Among these are Plume, Avalanche, OneFootball, and the Solana Foundation. Given this great backing, D3 seems committed to transforming the domain industry.
