Conclusion
I don’t think Virgin Atlantic/Virgin Points offers much value beyond using them for award flights through Flying Club on Virgin, SkyTeam, and other affiliated airlines (which can be GREAT value—look at my recent award redemption).
However, you should NOT convert even when a promo is ongoing unless you have a clear plan for using it, or you may find yourself in a situation like I (read more here).
