American Airlines and Hyatt announced some “enhancements” coming to the program from 2025 (read more here) that meant ending the earning of points and miles for airline flights and stays (if you had elite status with both companies).
Instead, there would be various AA offers on Hyatt’s Milestones, including AAdvantage Platinum status at 100 – 150 nights and various seat upgrades and Gold status options at 20 to 90 Milestones. AAdvantage members can choose various Hyatt free night awards at specific Loyalty Point goals.

The “Status for a Day” options have now appeared on Hyatt’s website and app, and there are some questions surrounding these:
AAdvantageGold® Status for a Day: For 5,000 World of Hyatt points, Explorists or Globalists can enjoy complimentary upgrades when available, one free checked bag, priority check-in, a 40% mileage bonus and more.
AAdvantagePlatinum® Status for a Day: For 8,000 World of Hyatt points, Explorists or Globalists can enjoy complimentary upgrades, two free checked bags, priority check-in, a 60% mileage bonus and more.
AAdvantagePlatinum Pro® Status for a Day: For 12,000 World of Hyatt points, Globalists can enjoy complimentary upgrades, three free checked bags, priority check-in, an 80% mileage bonus and more.
As a Globalist, I could choose two each of these three options.
- AAdvantage Gold = Oneworld Ruby
- AAdvantage Platinum = Oneworld Sapphire
- AAdvantage Platinum Pro = Oneworld Emerald
It is unclear how the status will show on possible partner airline systems. The Sapphire and Emerald status comes with lounge access on long-haul international American flights and all non-North American Oneworld carriers (all flights).
Four questions that a reader sent me:
1) “2 redemptions remainging through Feb 28”
that means I can redeem 2 times before Feb 28 2025 & will reset the count after Feb 28 2025 ? or my Globalist current end date Feb 28 2026 ?
This is a good question; how Hyatt and AA have set it up is unclear. They could now be available for members who haven’t qualified for the Globalist status for the current year but still have the option to choose it through the end of February.
Also, it is unclear when Hyatt resets these options. Do you receive new voucher sets that you can purchase using World of Hyatt points when you requalify or at the beginning of each year?
2) in T&C, “the date chosen to use the award must be within 372 days from purchase.”
that means I can choose any date within 372 or need to be used before my Globalist expiry date Feb 28 ?
As long as the T&Cs of these “Status for a Day” certs issued from Hyatt are exactly as they are from AA, they are valid for 372 days from the date they were chosen. The AA terms state that you must have them in your AAdvantage account a minimum of 7 days before the intended use.
3) if I choose the date 2 months later (Let’s say Feb 27), the date will suddently change to Platium Pro on 00:00 local time ? or from which time zone ? GMT PST EST HKT ?
American Airlines is based in Texas, but I assume the pass applies to flights scheduled for departure within the pass’s validity period, regardless of the time zone. Note that the terms state that the pass is only valid on AA-operated and marketed flights.
It is unclear what status, if any, possible partner airlines see. These passes would be more valuable if they were applied to partner airlines at the correct Oneworld status level.
4) if March 2025 will reset the count, can I redeem July 2025 before Feb 28, after reset, redeem x’mas flight ? total 4 in 2025
You can redeem two passes, valid through early 2026 and perhaps more, in March.

Conclusion
There are practically no benefits now for those who hold status with both of these programs, while previously, you earned Hyatt points and AAdvantage miles for stays and flights.
I have no personal experience with how well these “Status for a Day” passes work (I have lifetime Platinum with AA), but they can be a good benefit for those who don’t have status with AA but would embark on an international journey with them, as Platinum and Platinum Pro come with lounge access.
Also, as the reader noted, it is unclear what time zone is used for pass validity, but I assume that all the flights departing on that date, regardless of where, are covered.
